license store contains inconsistent data RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am experiencing a similar problem as many others... right after a Windows Update.

I'm running a Dell XPS laptop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit purchased in March, using McAfee Security Center, and have not had problems with validation until this week.

The messages I'm seeing says "Windows must be reinstalled" "An unauthorized change was made to Windows. Windows must be reinstalled to activate...."
So, that would be Windows Update.
A separate message tells me that the "license store contains inconsistent data".

I am certainly not thrilled with the prospect of reinstalling windows and all of my software with customizations... to say the least.

  • A System Restore to a point 8 days before the problem does not improve the situation. Same messages, same behavior. Hmm.
