But all of a sudden, now I can't start it anymore because the Vista keeps complaining the product key is invalid! Geez...

The Product Key affixed to the bottom of your computer is for Microsoft Windows Vista and not Microsoft Office.
How to convert a trial version of a 2007 Office suite or program to a full retail perpetual license version:

Hi Paul,
First off, would you go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button. If you do not receive any errors, reboot 2 times and see if that resolves the issue. If it does not, follow the below steps:
<If you have access to the Start Button>
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key
3) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer
4) Click the Next button.
5) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok
6) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 7)
7) Click the Start button
8) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key
9) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button
10) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone
NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice that will try to Activate Vista for you. If the Atomated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. This should force the Automated Voice to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. Trying to Activate thru the Automated Voice will not work, in your case, only thru the Live Activation Rep will your Activation be successful.
Once completed, you may need to reboot twice.
<If you Do Not have access to the Start Button>the alternate steps to get you to the Change Product Key window is to:
1) Click the option 'Run with reduced functionality'
2) A internet Browser should come up, type: %windir%\system32\cmd.exe in the browser address bar
3) A window with a black background will come up
4) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key
5) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer
6) Click the Next button.
7) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok
8) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 9)
9) Return to the window with the black background
10) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key
11) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button
12) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone
NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice that will try to Activate Vista for you. If the Atomated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. Hi Darin,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
First of all, I couldnt' get it to connect to Internet at all.
Secondly, I don't have access to the Start menu button.
Thus I had to follow your second solution.
After invoking slui.exe 3, I came back to that same screen I had earlier. Tried to choose to enter new product key, with one on the sticker at the back of the machine. But I was then prompted with a message saying the product key is invalid with error code C004F050. In fact, this is the very same message that I made me asked for help!
So, help again....

Hi Paul,
Would you try the below steps
1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality
2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs -ipk then hit the space bar once then type in the Product Key from the sticker on your computer, then hit the Enter key
6) Reboot
Now re-run the MGADiag tool and then post the new Diagnostic Report so I can see if that did, in fact, change the product key.
Thanks
Darin

Hi Darin,
I have tried that. But after I invoke the slmgr.vbs, I got following which is presumably an error message:
C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(303, 9) (null): 0xC004E017

Oh BTW, I tried with the product key having hyphens in it. But I also tried without, both with same behavior.

Try the following:
Restart your computer two (2) times. You should then see the activation screen after these reboots and be able to activate the machine by entering your Windows Vista Product Key. Afterward, visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click on Validate Windows, then restart your computer again.

Hi Carey,
I don't think I need to restart two times, as everytime I reboot and go into Vista, I always get the Windows Activation screen saying my product key is invalid and provide me with the 3 options (access with reduced functionality, type different key, or contact fujitsu blah blah).
Also, I wouldn't be able to access that website, because I couldn't get access to Internet from it. The Wireless network doesn't get detected somehow.
Thanks,
Paul

HI,
I know this thread is a little old but I had exactly the same problem recently on Windows Vista Premium Home and I'm afraid none of the suggestions were very much use to me. I ended up doing a system restore which solved the problem straight away. I lost a couple of days worth of bits and pieces but it definitely solved it and no problems since. I have a feeling it was caused by the failed installation of Windows Updates originally published on 8\13\2010. I have since reinstalled all the updates from that date to no ill effect so I can't imagine it was a problem with a particular update, more likely the installation was interrupted for some reason or other.
I have a sneaking, and unscientific, suspicion that even if you did get a new OEM number from Microsoft or your manufacturer, it probably won't make any difference because some registry file or other is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled or rolled back.
Anyway, I'm guessing the original poster has the problem solved but on the off-chance it happens to someone else, if you do have a system restore option available to you, I'd use it.
