Oh, bother!
Life gets difficult once we've exhausted those two options, so we'll have to start from first principles.
First - do you have (or have you had) a Lexmark printer installed? If so, please post back with details.
If not, then please continue as below...
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your OneDrive Public folder (http://onedrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.
Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

I am grateful for your help. This is now beyond me, so sooner or later I will have to take my computer in to be fixed. Again, thank you for all your help.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -
Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194
(you want the iata_enu.exe download)
Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

When I did this it said that this computer doesn't meet the minimum requirement for installing the software. One of the other choices is f6flpy-86.zip which is for 32 bit. I believe my computer is 32 bit. Is this what I need or something totally unrelated to your suggestion? I am sorry, I don't know much about computers.Sunday, March 9, 2014 1:58 PM

The download I gave you is for both 32-bit and 64-bit, but may be too recent for your machine.
Try this one instead.

I take it that installed OK?
It doesn't seem to have fixed the problem, though :(
Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt
NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVConce complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.
Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

It did install ok. As I mentioned, I don't know much about computers. This problem started months ago after I had to have a new hard drive installed. Does this information change the advice that you have last suggested? And thank you so much for your help.Sunday, March 9, 2014 3:25 PM

That information changes nothing about the methods we'd use to fix the problem - although it does explain what caused it in the first place.
Please continue with the rename as above.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

fyi. I found a solution [elsewhere in this Forum] that may not please you, but, You MUST to activate Windows 7 PRIOR to Windows 7 SP1..
I had the same issue with my DELL, when rebuilding it from a hdd crash.
I re-installed Win7, immediately activated it, rebooted three or four times, and verified that in the Computer Properties screen it said activated.
Then I turned on 'only' all important updates Then after several iterations of Windows Update, I allowed the recommended ones, and finally selected the optional ones I wanted.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the OP's problems.
Activation of Windows 7 has already occurred here - the system is failing the validation checks which it does periodically.
Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth No - I do not work for Microsoft, or any of its contractors. Monday, March 10, 2014 4:55 PMModerator -
Then a question comes to mind, If the product is 'activated' then is it possible that OP's issue belongs in a different forum?
However, with all of the windows update fails with error code 0x80070002, OP may wish to try the fixit tool that
Dena B Suggests in the [[ Applies To: Windows|Windows 7|Windows Update [forum] ]]
MicrosoftRun the Fixit in this document to resolve Windows Update error 0x80070002.

The 0x80070002 results are not relevant to the activation issue. If you read more than this one report, you will see that every report in this forum generates those codes.
Please do not read this sentence. Please ignore the previous sentence.
