WHS 2011 & Coming out of hibernation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Recently I re-installed WHS 2011 onto my HP N40L home server. Prior to the re-installation I had my server set via task scheduler(and in the long past using Lights out) to Hibernate @ 12 midnight and wake at 8am.

After installing a fresh copy of WHS 2011( not installing over the top ) I have not been able to get WHS 2011 to wake from hibernation using Task scheduler or lights out. WHS 2011 does Hibernate on schedule (i.e. nil issues)

I'm at a lost to why this is occurring.  Lights out is correctly configured. When I use task scheduler to I do as per this guide - https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4eb7ba36-d3b4-4755-b4de-d893161d2330/schedule-sleep-and-wake-up-for-whs?forum=whs2011

    Thanks for any help

    James

  • Hi,

I want to confirm with you that if you can manually wake up this server from hibernation?

As this problem happens after re-installation, please make sure that all hardware (including BIOS, Firmware) drivers have been up to data. Besides, check the Power Option settings:
Control Panel – Hardware – Power Options – Edit Plan Settings – Change advanced power settings - Sleep – Enable Allow waker timers

Also, I would recommend you to check/install Windows Update, in order to obtain updates and fixes.

  • Hi Eve,

    Thanks for you reply

Yes I can manually wake my server from hibernation. WHS 2011 is up to date with its updates/patches.

I have gone and enabled 'Allow wake timers' in the Power options settings. I wonder is this is my my issue...? Such a simple fix if it is.

I'll report back tomorrow morning after my server is due to wake from hibernation.

    Cheers

  • Hi Eve,

Yes, enabling 'Allow wake timers' has this fixed my issue. Now all I need to do is track down a rogue process that wakes my server in the middle of the night!

    Cheers
