  • Question

  • Any thoughts?  I live in NY now but went to a school in PA a while ago where I got my copy of XP as a student through the university.  I distinctly remember reading back then that the license was valid even after I left school...

    Cheers.

  • Sorry, but the Volume License version of Windows XP Professional was only valid while you were attending school.  That particular license belongs solely to the university.  Once you left school, the license is no longer valid since it belongs to the university and not you.

In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, click on the Get Genuine button which will provide information on how to acquire a WGA Kit.

  • Please do not make false blanket statements.  The licensing agreements between universities and software vendors can vary widely.  For example, at the school I attended, the following applies:

Students are permitted to keep, for their personal use, copies of Microsoft software received under this license upon leaving the University. In order to do this, the student must visit ***** to complete a ***** form prior to withdrawal or graduation.

  • You need to check with your school for clarification.  Volume Licenses are non-transferrable to individuals.  The license belongs to the entity who purchased the Volume License Agreement.
