Dual code signing MSI files using sha1 (Windows 7) & sha256 (Windows 8) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been dual code signing DLL's & EXE's with sha1 (Windows 7) & sha256 (Windows 8) using signtool.exe successfully. I attempted to code sign my first MSI and got error message "SignTool Error: Multiple signature support is not implemented for this filetype". I am using an EV certificate. The computer is Windows 8.1 (64-bit). The signtool.exe version is 6.3.9600.17298. Next, I attempted to use sha256 only and get the same error which doesn't make sense since I am only trying to sign it one time. However, if I sign it with sha1 only it is successful. Why can't I sign it with sha256 and subsequently dual sign MSI files? Your help is appreciated.

  • Hello,

The MSDN, TechNet and Expression Library Feedback forum is to "Help improve the Library Experience in MSDN, TechNet and Expression by providing feedback on features, bugs, look and feel or by just providing suggestions". This is not a support forum.

As it's off-topic here, I am moving the question to the Where is the forum for... forum.

  • Hello,

I'd ask in the Visual Studio General Questions forum.
