Storage Server 2003 R2 Clarification

I wonder is Storage Server 2003 R2 the equilavent of Windows 2003 Std? I am looking to virtualize our File server that has the OS SS 2003 R2, but its not on VmWare's software compatibility matrix. Listed is Windows 2003 for Ent and Std, but no Storage Server reference.

Should I be concerned? My consultant says it should virtualize fine and SS 2003 is synonomous as Windows 2003 Std. I just need to get clarification please.
