replace a small drive with nice big fat one RRS feed

  • I have several hard disks in my server one for them is a small 200gig I have a 1tb i want to swap with it how can i swap this with out lossing data on it.

    Can i get the server to move all data off it on to my new drive then remove it ?

    Will I have to ghost it ???

    Any ideas

    1. Install the big drive temporarily. This could be in an external USB case, or internal to the server if you have the room.
    2. Add it to the storage pool.
    3. Remove the small drive using the WHS Console.
    4. Shut down the server.
    5. Install the big drive internally, if it isn't already. WHS should detect it even if it was previously in an external USB case.
    6. Reboot the server.

    I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
