Question - replacing a motherboard and using WHS restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I must replace a defective MB on my XP Pro computer.

This computer was previously backed up on my WHS computer.

If I do a Windows clean install or a "repair"after replacing the MB, will I still be able to access and restore my WHS backup image?

    Thanks

  • If you replace the motherboard with an identical unit you could restore the same image to a new hdd or put the same hdd back in and the OS would work fine. If you are upgrading equipment, after installing the connector software you could browse the existing backup from previous hardware and copy data out of into the new machine. It behaves like a new virtual drive during the process and may take a few minutes for it to become accessible but it works well.
