Vista Validation Problem. RRS feed

  • Question

  • So this has occured three times, I have a Toshiba Satellite 64-bit with windows vista. Three times it has claimed that my copy of vista is no longer valid, or is counterfit. When this occurs access to the control panel is impossible except through backdoors, and even then the funcionality of several programs is denied. For instance it says that my system restore can't be found, it's an invalid path etc. My wireless card will no longer pick up any net works, to whichi it says 'wirless service is not running' and no matter how hard I try I can't get it to start back. It also give me an 'Error 3: Specified path no longer exist' when I try and start my validation process in the system...From what I've been reading this systems to be a fairly common problem, but I'm getting extremely tired of having to restore all my setting to factory. Tell me there's something to fix this problem.

  • Hi LeeValentine,

The core of the Non-genuine issue is that the 'Software Licensing Service has stopped'. Normally this is an easy issue to resolve. you just need to do the command that re-starts the Service. The real issue (as you found out when you attempted to restart the service) is that the 'Software Licensing Service has stopped...and won't restart'.

The System that controls the starting and stopping of Services is a core Vista component (and won't be supported by anti-piracy), but we are seeing this too much and want to find out why it is happening and how to fix it, without sending users to Vista (paid) support.

We would like you to create a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 and post the confirmation number here in this thread. (make sure to include, in your Service Request, an email and/or phone number that you are ok with our engineer contacting you with).

On a side note, the Control Panel being inaccessible is expected, with this type of issue, because Reduced Functionality Mode is a result of the Software licensing Service not running. However, the other issues, that you describe, are not normal and make me suspect that something else is happening beside the SLS not running.
Attention Forum All Users: Please Do Not post your issue in someone else's Thread...Create your own.
