Imported Project \ Web Editing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have my Project Professional connected to Project Server (pwa).

When i open any .mpp i can then save it to pwa. But independently of complexity, the resulted web project becomes non editable thru web interface. Can open and edit them only with Project Professional.

How do i import project so that it could be managed from browser ?

  • When i click Edit on my project the error pops up is:

Editing Is Not Supported This project uses features that are not supported for editing in Project Web App.
This project contains blank rows between tasks.

I guess it should lead me to reason )

  • Hi,

after clicking on project name in Project Center. Have you clicked on Edit - In project Web App in ribbon? Do you get any error message when doing so?

  • You cannot edit project schedule in PWA with Fixed work.

Why are you saving project .MPP files to pwa?  If this is a regular practice, you are not using PWA and project correctly.

    Cheers

  • I am not saving .mpp file to pwa library, i save it as pwa native project.

The idea is to publish all local .mpp projects to pwa and make users to work with it thru web interface.

But as some testing shows pwa is far less flexible than thick client (

  • Hi Evernite, you are correct, PWA is less flexible than the thick client.

  • Hi,

open project in Project client and delete empty rows. After saving, you will be able to open project in Project Web App for editing.

Excuse me, please, for bumping into this conversation.  In the past, I have seen projects belonging to my students where the student has accidentally created an extra task after the last task in the project.  Somehow they entered a value on a blank row that ended up creating a task that does not belong in the project.  This might be your case.  To determine if this is the case, temporarily insert the Unique ID column to the left of the Task Name column.  Scroll past the last task in your project and look for any blank row that has a number in the Unique ID field.  If you see anything other than a blank in the Unique ID column in a blank row, then delete that row.  Only real tasks and summary tasks have Unique ID numbers.  Blank rows should not.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.
