How to consume Odata in WP7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I have a few questions;

    1) How can i consume odata from WP7? Does it require an addin or add service reference?

    2) When i use odata with sync framework, where is the data stored? Is it in isolated storage?

    3) Does Odata sync updates done on my device back to the server?

    4) Can i schedule periodic updates , as against the user having to press a SYNC button.. If so, how do i do this?

  • 1) See http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=b251b247-70ca-4887-bab6-dccdec192f8d&displaylang=en for info on the OData client libraries for WP7

    2) yes it is stored in isolated storage with a custom tracking layer built on top of that.

    3) No. At the moment OData and SyncFx4.0 clients can only communicate with OData service and SyncFx4.0 Service respectively. They dont interop yet.

    4) Scheduling is not available but you can add code to call CacheController.RefreshAsync at Timer intervals.

  • Thanks,

    Apart from Nina Hu's session at PDC 2010, are there any other examples of using Sync with WP7?

  • Hi femig,

    SyncFx 4.0 CTP ships with samples for several clients like WP7, Silverlight Desktop, HTML5, WM6.5 and iPhone. You can have a look at those to understand how things work. Are you looking for some specific information?

  • i am looking for a scenario where i can sync data from a remote datasource and also write back to it via WCF or otherwise..i understand odata is read only..
