CRM 2011 Plugins RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have 30 something crm 4.0 plug-ins and now we are migrating towards CRM 2011.

I read SDk and it said migration will have not impact on CRM 4.0 plugin provided they were deployed in database and not using any depricated messages of 2011.

My question is , if I start developing new plugin using 2011 sdk/endpoint model, can crm 4.0 and crm 2011 plugin co-exist on same  plugin registration tool.

In short, I want to keep my crm 4.0 plug-in as it is and want to develop new plug-in using 2011 SDK for future enhancement of the system.

    Cheers

  • Yes, your CRM 4.0 and CRM 2011 plugins can live alongside each other - and you can administer them all using the CRM 2011 Plugin Registration Tool.  The main differences are that:

    • Only CRM 2011 plugins can handle new CRM 2011 specific functionality/messages - not an issue if you're merely supporting legacy code
    • CRM 4 plugins cannot be registered inside the CRM transaction - Pre-validation and Post operation (CRM4 only) stages only
    • Only CRM 4 plugins have a concept of Parent/Child pipeline

  • You can see All CRM4.0 plugins in the New Plugin registration Tool after Migration.  You can register New CRM 2011 plugins side by side along with CRM4.0 plugins.

But You can not update CRM4.0 plugins, you have re-register those plugins with CRM 2011 plugin assembly if you plans to update with CRM 2011 logic..

  • By Default All the CRM 4.0 Plugins will be migrated to CRM 2011 in the Migration Process. So you don't needs to register CRM4.0 plugins manually. But if you wants to register any new CRM4.0 plugins using CRM 2011 plugin registration tool, i think you can register, but i'm not sure. Just try once.
