Worth upgrading from 32 bit windows 7 ultimate to 64 Bit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I upgraded a laptop to a Solid State Drive but screwed up and put down the 32 bit version of Windows 7.  The performance improvement with the SSD has been huge.  Is it worth my time to redo the upgrade with the 64 bit version?  If I do the upgrade to 64 bit will it pull any of the settings or will it be a completely blank install?

  • You cannot upgrade between 32ibt and 64bit.  It requires a fresh installation.  It sounds like this is recent so I suggest you reinstall with the 64bit dvd while it is still relatively easy to do it.  There is little to recommend 32bit Windows anymore.  The world has moved on.
