How to turn off Duplication? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I do not use duplication in WHS V1. duped drives protects only against failed drives, not failed anything else. I use dumb XP box, Synctoy and external case with old EIDE drives attached to Echo sync from WHS to XP slave that is turned on once a week for the purpose of full backup. I have seen failed servers with stranded content and the slow process to extract data. So. How do I turn off duplication in WHS v2. Also does it support AHCI being enabled

  • Yes, it supports AHCI with inbox drivers (for most common HBAs).

As for duplication, it's a property of each individual share. You can right click a share in the dashboard, view properties, and turn it off there.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Ken,

I am trying to turn off duplication on certain server folders in VAIL, I untick the duplication box and then click the white cross (no OK or apply box shown)

However when I go back to the server folder again the duplication box is still ticked.

    Ie. It ignores the untick

    Any ideas

Something very weird is going on.  You should have OK, Cancel, and Apply buttons at the bottom of the dialog.  Are you using the Dashboard on a client PC or directly from the server?

    Found the answer,

On the client PC (the unit with WHS on) I selected the display to be medium (125%) rather than the smaller (100%), if you do this the OK, cancel etc buttons are outside of the border of the pop up box and disappear. There is no corner pull down to enlarge the box. When the display is set back to smaller (100%), the boxes reappear. Problem solved

    Thanks

    Peter
