"An unathorized change was made to Windows" problem

Question
-
Along with that it says that I must re-type the product key to activate. I have done so several times, but does not activate.
I have done the net start slvc and get the following: Not enough quota is available to process this command.
Did net stop slsvc and get: The following failure occured while trying to use the product key: Code 0xc004f050
I also did a sfc /scannow and get: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Last week I had a validation problem and fixed it, and now this. My Windows Vista came already installed if that's of any help.
Please help again.

Hi scilla,
The error code I'm seeing is that Vista isn't Activated. You mentioned that you have reentered the product key a number of time to be able to Activate. What happens if you try to Activate by Phone?
Lastly, I am also seeing a signs of a Tamper which means some part of Vista is being modified, corrupt (which makes sense since the 'sfc /scannow' command "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". The corrupt files may very well be in the Product Activation system.
If Activating by Phone does not resolve the issue (and since 'sfc /scannow' can't seem to repair the corruption) my only other recommedations would be to either contact Vista Support at http://support.microsoft.com and see if they can repair the damage or reinstall Vista.
Sorry I couldn't be more help,

Hello scilla,
It may be that Vista's Licensing Store is corrupt or malformed in some way. I would like you to try the below set of steps. The first set will attempt to reset the Store and the second set will recreate it. Try the first set and if that doesn't work, move on to the next.
1) Click the option that launches an Internet Browser
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right-click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms
6) Hit the Enter key
7) Reboot twice1) Return to the cmd windows
2) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
3) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
4) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
5) Type: cd %windir%\system32
6) Type: net start slsvc
7) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
8) Reboot Twice
9) You may be required to enter the Product Key again and then Activate
Please post if this resolves the issue or not,

Thanks for answering, but neither of those steps worked. The second one did when I had the validation problem, but not this time.Wednesday, August 19, 2009 11:37 PM
