  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

i have a working knowledge on (.net) programming C# and some C++, i have just finished my university studys.

I want to know what exams to go for some professional certification.

I see it is split into VS2010, VS2008, and VS2005 and all the corresponding .net versions etc.

Where should i go to start climbing this ladder ?

    VS 2005 exams then up.

I would probabley focus on the Web Developer side of things ?

    Any input would be appriecated.

    Thanks,

    Altair.

  • Hi Altair,

You don't have to start at 2005 if you don’t want to. You can directly go to 2008 or even 2010. What I would suggest, start with 2008 since 2010 was just released gain some experience and then upgrade to 2010.

    Hope this is helpful.

  • Hi Altair,

First of all your study is also an important achievement so good for you on that one. As Rubel stated 2008 would be a good point to start. The visual studio certification has a nice track you can follow. As with everything else starting at the base is essential here so start with 70-536 which will focus on the .net framework. After that you can pick you following exams on the road to webddev.

    Go here for starters:

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-vstudio.aspx#tab3

This is the complete track for 2008. I did a couple of 2005 and had real fun studying. But let me remind you that practice and theory go hand in hand so make sure you have the option to play around on a pc while studying. Actually doing the excersises gives you more insight in the thoughts of the .net framework.

Starter: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-536): Microsoft .NET Framework--Application Development Foundation, Second Edition

Good luck with preparing for the exam of your choice and keep us posted on your progress.

  • Hi Sanjeev,

I suggest you to go for Revised Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) for .Net Framework 4 / VS 2010

As you wants to be a web developer go for 70-515

You no need to take up the lengthy 70-536 (for .Net 2.0) since this exam is no longer prerequisite for MCTS
