MCSA 70-740 practice labs and virtual lab setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm fixing to take the MCSA 70-740. I'm about to finish an online community college course that covers the topics presented in the exam, but I'm afraid the way the curriculum (Cengage in this case) presented the material made it hard to internalize, especially for someone without IT experience like myself. I already have a CCNA, and the Cisco courses did a good job of forcing you to not only apply what you learned through labs, but those labs didn't always hold your hand like the practice labs for this course. You'd get a scenario, a list of tasks that needed to be completed, but NOT step by step instructions on how to do each task. At the end there would be a step to make sure the tasks were done correctly like pinging across the network or making sure the routing tables on all the routers had converged etc. Is there a place where I can find labs like that? I can't just practice on my own because I'll subconsciously avoid more difficult topics that I should be practicing all the more. I need direction, but not handholding.

On a similar note, I'm looking to rebuild my desktop into a virtual lab for this and other classes. What CPU would you recommend? I don't really do a lot of gaming, and I understand the more RAM the better for virtualization.
