Will my nForce2 chipset support Windows Server 2008? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Much to my disgust, I learned that nVidia dropped driver support for the nForce2 chipset a few years ago ending with Win XP when I tried to upgrade to the initial Vista release.  This prevented me from using features like 5.1 on-board sound with Vista.

Brief specs:  Athlon XP 2800, Asus A7N8XE-Deluxe MB, 1GB DDR400, SATA HD.

I don't use this desktop much anymore, but I'd like to put it to work now as a dynDNS server.  Added features like 5.1 surround sound would no longer be relevant, but is anyone aware of issues hosting Server 2008 (x86) with either the nVidia XP or Microsoft generic chipset drivers?

    Thanks,

    CJB

  • Hi,
this forum is about the operating system Windows Home Server, therefore your question is offtopic here.

If you cannot get Vista drivers for your hardware, it will also not be supported in Windows Server 2008, since both systems are based on the same code basis. (And hardware makers will not bother to design explicit drivers for outdated consumer hardware.)
