The product key you typed is already in use. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I ordered the Vista Home Premium upgrade the first day it came out. I installed the x32 version of it. I recieved an email from microsoft saying that for a limited time I could order a x64 disc for the cost of shipping and handling.

I wait a few months until today. I installed the disc (x64) but now I'm getting the message "The product key you typed is already in use".

I bought a fresh hard drive and the old install of x32 is still on the old drive, should I delete it and would that solve my problem or is it a registration problem?

  • Yes, you must reformat your old hard drive before using the product key with the new hard drive.  Afterward, follow this procedure:

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

    1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in:  slui.exe 4

    2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

    3. Select your Country.

    4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.

    5.  Once completed, restart your computer.
