After trying to install SP1 I've had nothing but problems.

The updated reached 3/3 100% before saying the update failed.  Another update failed earlier as well.

    WIndows Vista Ultimate

I now get told I have an invalid copy of windows and going to the genuine advantage page says that it cannot run at present.   Parallels on my mac has now also stopped working.

    Hi Chris,

Regarding SP1 install failing, I will need to refer you to the Vista Solution Center (http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732 ) that has information regarding a number of SP1 related issues as well as a link to SP1 (no cost) Email, Chat and Phone based support.

But first, I do want to resolve your Non-Genuine issue.

The error code Validation Code: 0xc004c2fa means that during Validation, an Invalid XML Blob was detected. This is not an issue I see very much of (I believe you are the 3rd I have seen in 6 months) so I can't be very specific on what exactly caused the issue (could be anything from the server that received the XML Blob was experiencing High Volumes and the XML was mis-read to the possibility of one or more of the license files, that the XML is created from, have become corrupt).

So first off, in case this issue was caused by a random error during the Validation process, I would like you to reboot Vista and then go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button. If your Vista Validates without error, reboot again (it may take 2 reboots to resync all of Vista's systems back to a Genuine state). At this point Vista should be in a fully Genuine state. (If the Validation failes, record any error you receive)

If that does not resolve the issue, the fillow the below steps (if the first set of steps fails to resolve the issue, move on to the 2nd set)

     Regenerate Vista Licenses:

    1) Open Internet Browser

    2) Type %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    6) Reboot Twice

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Regenerate Vista's Token store:

    1) Open Internet Browser

    2) Type %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type net start slsvc

    10) Reboot

    11) Vista may require you to re-enter your Product Key and Re-activate.

If any of the thing I had you try resolves this issue, please come back and tell me which it was so I may refine my resolution steps for future users.

If none of them resolve the issue, please rerun the Diagnostic Report and post it again so I can compare it with your earlier one.

    Thank you,

    Darin Smith
