How can I change the Product Key in Office 2003? My old key is not valid.

Question

My current Office program is not genuine. I just installed a genuine copy of top of it. But it did not ask me for the new product key. How can I put the new, valid key into my system?

Hello Zinck,
When a computer has installations of both a Genuine and a nongenuine Office at the same time, sometimes it takes a little extra nudge to get the remnants of the nongenuine installation out of the computer.
Right now your report is showing only the Genuine retail license installation of Office Professional 2003, so your situation is one of those where a little more housecleaning should do the trick.
Let's try that in two steps.
First, go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on Validate Office. If Office validates, restart the computer and then open the program(s) that were showing the nongenuine software notices. The noticies should be gone and should stay gone.
If Office does not Validate, or if it does yet opening programs continues to generate notices, let's get a little more aggressive. Go to this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275 and scroll down to "Method 2". Run the FixIt in Method 2.
After the FixIt runs and you have checked by opening an Office program, restart and revisit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click Validate Office once again. You should Validate normally and use of your Office programs should show no more nongenuine notices.
If none of that works and you are still seeing notice, post back and we will link you to free email support, because you might have a more involved issue that would be tough for us to help you with given the limitations of the forum.

Hello Zinck,
First please edit your post above to remove the Office product key, it is not necessary to post and is exposing your product key to theft!
Here's how to proceed:
1. Use the Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard to preserve your current Office 2003 settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826809
2. From Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs applet, uninstall the nongenuine Office Professional 2003. Restart twice.
3. After restarting twice, click Start>All Programs>Office 2003>Word to open Word 2003.
4. If the Office Activation wizard does not automatically begin at this time, in Word, click Help>Activate [Office][Word] and choose to activate by the internet. After activation completes, restart.
5. Now, visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button to ensure that your current retail lciense installation of Office Professional 2003 can Validate normally.
6. Use your Office programs normally. Visit Microsoft Update to get your Office installation up-to-date with all the patches and Service Packs. If Office Validated successfully, you should not see any more messages about nongenuine software. If you do, please post back here for further assistance.

Dan,
I did as you instructed.
I uninstalled the old Office and then installed my Office Professinal 2003 that is in the box and has the product code on the back which I had previously posted above.
It installed fine and works just fine.
HOWEVER,
I have a message on Word which reads: THIS COPY OF OFFICE IS NOT GENUINE.
So now what?
What more does MS want?
Thank you!
