WHS Connector problems -- notice ports 55000 and 56000 not open RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried going to http://server:55000 to re-install the connector software but I get an "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" error.  Same with 56000.  I do a netstat on the server and I don't see those ports listening?

Where do I check and how do I fix this ?

I also notice that when I install the connector software it fails right after asking for the password.  Doesn't make a difference if I give the correct password or not, it fails with the same error.

Thanks to Microsoft for the auto update that screwed up WHS connector.

  • Just to make sure you have the correct version of the connector software in your softwarefolder first please please:

    1. logon to your server using remote desktop; on client do Start, Run, type mstsc.exe and Hit Enter. Computername is name or IP address of your server, Username is Administrator, password is your WHS console password.

    2. Open explorer window, browse to folder C:\WHS. Normally a copy of the most recent Connector installer should be present there (Connector installer and two msi files, the msi files normally have a date a few days prior to the last WHS update.

3.You can copy these files to a client and install or alternatively copy these files to the \Software\Home Server Connector Software folder of your server (store the current files in that location in a temp folder first), then try installing again from http://yourservername:55000

If that doesn't solve your problem then please try:

    4. Connect to your Home Server desktop (Remote Desktop is also fine)

    5. Open explorte window, browse to C:\Windows\temp, right click on the folder, Properties, Security tab

    6. Edit permissions, Add then type IIS_WPG into  the box, click Check names, click OK

    7. Set permissions to Full Control for IIS_WPG
