Home Office installed then corporate now need to go back to personal software

Question
-
I was running Office Professional 2007 and had it installed for my work on my personal computer at home. I have now retired and have no access to the corporate version. I have genuine Office Professional 2007 upgrade purchased at home now and reinstalled everything again. When i go to use my Office now, i get the message that my software is not genuine. It apparently is using the corporate info and not my personal disk. At this point i am not sure if i should unistall my office completely and resinstall (my Office Professional CD states at the very top of the box that it is an upgrade for existing users). I had my own personal software installed before the corporate software was installed. Entering the personal CD key doesn't change the ownership over from corporate. Anyone have a clear direction i should go from here or just purchase Office 2010 of which i am afraid it too will pick up the corporate info! HELP!Wednesday, April 21, 2010 10:34 PM

Hello Nitejasmines,
Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

There is the nongenuine Volume Licensing (aka "corporate") installation of Office Enterprise 2007, and the installed but not yet activated retail license for Office Professional 2007.
Here's what to do:
1. From the Programs applet in Control Panel, uninstall Office Enterprise 2007. Then restart the computer twice.
2. Next, open an Office program, such as Word 2007. You should be presented with the Office Activation Wizard. If so, continue with doing a normal online activation. Once activated, restart the computer and log onto Windows normally.
(If there is an issue at this point, it could be related to the fact that your Office is an upgrade and not a full license, but I would have expected anything along those lines would have presented itself when you first installed the upgrade installation of Office. Does the computer have an installation of Microsoft Works on it? If so, Office may be using Works as the qualifying product, which is good for you.)
3. Next, keeping all Office programs closed for the moment, open Internet Explorer and go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button. Your Office should validate normally. Once validated, restart the computer once more and log onto Windows normally.
4. Next, open several Office programs to make sure that you are no longer seeing the nongenuine notices. You can also rerun the mgadiag utility and post a fresh report for us to check for you.
5. Finally, go to Windows Updates, if necessary set WU to get updates for Office and other Microsoft products, then keep running WU until there are no more updates.

Hi Dan, thanks for the steps however i couldn't get it to validate as of yet. I uninstalled Office Enterprise 2007 and rebooted three times. I opened word as well as outlook and excel and couldn't get an activation page. It still has the 'this is not genuine software' at the top. I have enclosed the diagnostics once again to see if there is anything else i can try. I did go to the site for validation but of course it won't take there either. Anything more i can do? Thanks for your help.

Hello Nitejasmines,
The good news is that you were successful in uninstalling the nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007.
Now we just have to get your Office Professional 2007 activated. Office won't validate until it's activated.
I understand you tried opening Word, Excel and Outlook and yet an activation prompt would not come up.
Could you open Word, then click the Office Button in the upper left, then the Word Options button on the lower right, then Resources in the left column, then click the Activate button on the middle right? That should start the Activation Wizard.
If that does not work we do have one more trick up our sleeves.
Let us know how you are doing :-)

Hello Nitejasmines,
Office Professional 2007 thinks it is activated, but the mgadiag utility is reporting it is not.
Office Status: 101 Not Activated
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 - 101 Not ActivatedQuite often that means the Office License File is damaged. This file does not get removed or overwritten when Office is uninstalled, so it's likely there are remnants of the nongenuine Office that was on the computer gumming up the works.
To correct this problem, please go to this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895 and run the MS FixIt utility in the Method 1 section of the article.
When the FixIt completes, restart the computer, then open Word 2007 and you should be presented with the Activation Wizard. Complete online activation, then restart.
Next, keeping all Office programs closed for the moment, open Internet Explorer and go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button. Your Office should validate normally. Once validated, restart the computer once more and log onto Windows normally.
Next, open several Office programs to make sure that you are no longer seeing the nongenuine notices. You can also rerun the mgadiag utility and post a fresh report for us to check for you.
Finally, go to Windows Updates, if necessary set WU to get updates for Office and other Microsoft products, then keep running WU until there are no more updates.
Let us know if you were successful!

Hi Dan, I thought I got it this time but still have the "this is not genuine message" I am attaching the diagnostics. The validation and reboots went successfully and also the validation as it stated it was successful. I rebooted after that and opened word and excel both getting the non genuine message. Whatever is going on here with my software is puzzling to say the least! I hope this diagnostic shows you something. Thanks again.

Hello Nitejasmines,
Thank you for your patience as we work thru this issue.
Your nongenuine Office is gone and you genuine Office is activated and reports as Genuine in the report. Now we have to try to "kick start" the OGA Notifier so that it sees what we see and stops telling us that your software is still nongenuine.
Normally going to www.microsoft.com/genuine and clicking the Validate Office button forces the Notifier to re-assess the Office license file to see if it is Genuine, and then reset itself if it is genuine. For some reason that is not happening.
Can you go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx? and run the online diagnostic? If it reports any problems, let it try to fix them.
If the above does not help, I think the next thing we'll do is get you over to free email tech support so they can try to get this ironed out.

Hi Dan, I went to the site and ran the diagnostic test and it passed all the tests. I rebooted my computer just to be sure and it still is showing non genuine. I appreciate all your help as you do a great job in giving instructions that are easy to follow. I wish it would have been an easier fix but I know how computers can be at times! Thanks for all your help in pursuing this fix.Sunday, April 25, 2010 5:39 PM

Hello Nitejasmines,
Sorry we couldn't be of more help here on the forum!
Here's the link to free email tech support for your Office Genuine Advantage issue: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&c1=505&gprid=11482&&st=1&wfxredirect=1
When you fill out the problem description part of the initial form, you can provide the support enginners a link to this thread for background info. If you so choose, copy and paste this link:
When they get your problem fixed, could you come back here to let us know what the underlying problem was and what they did to fix it? Thanx! :-)

Hi Dan
Thanks for the referral. They ended up getting it fixed by me going to 'computer', properties and reentering my product key from vista. Then back to the www.microsoft.com/genuine website to revalidate it. That fixed it. Something so simple I never thought of doing. Hopefully it will be another ten yrs before i need to remember this either! :) Have a good day.
