Live Mesh problem

Question
-
I understand from the various blogs I have read that this is a similar problem which many users have faced .
Clicking the Notifier gives the message "Live Mesh desktop is not available".
I have my Office desktop and my laptop in the mesh. Both the computers are being shown Online on the mesh and both have the yellow exclamation mark in a yellow traingle. The current version of Live Mesh installed is 0.9.4014.7
Live Mesh is running, Devices appears online however there is an exclamation point on both the Devices if viewed from another device or on the device itself. The problem devices can currently syncing data as I placed a large file in the Live Mesh folder on the Live Desktop.
At the same time I can access www.mesh.com from that Device, see the devices in sync, access the "Live Desktop" however there is that exclamtion point on the problem device which when clicked "This device cannot be accessed. Please check the Live Mesh notifier on the device to see if the remote desktop enhancements need to be installed."
I have been using Live Mesh for almost 10 months and have never faced this problem earlier. However, the problem cropped up the last 2 - 3 weeks.
I have removed and re-installed live mesh without any success to solving the problem.
I have also sent a bugs log and screen shots of the message windows; yet to get a reply. Read all the blogs and help files...but seems the answer doesn't exist in them!
Any suggestions to solve the problem.Tuesday, July 14, 2009 3:13 PM

It sounds like you have tried all you can to resolve the issue. I suspect the cause will be somewhere in your Live Mesh logs so waiting for a response to your bug submission may be all that can be done.

Hello Sujoy, it sometimes takes a while to find the cause and find a workaround or fix. I'm sure you will hear when there is some movement on resolving the problem.

Just to add to Jim's reply, sometimes you won't hear anything back on your bug submission and the problem is addressed in a future update to the product.

Hi Jim,
It has been quite a while since I posted my problem.
When I logged into live mesh one day (about a week back) from my laptop, the yellow exclamation mark was gone against both my laptop and the remote desktop computer. I could also connect to my remote desktop computer. However, when I closed the remote desktop, the yellow icon re-appeared against both the computers and has been there since.
However, on my remote desktop computer, the yellow icon has disappeared since today. Consequently, I have been able to access the desktop from the laptop but not vice versa.
Please advise if there are some settings which need to be altered on my laptop.
Best regards,
SujoyMonday, August 17, 2009 11:22 AM -
Hello, Sujoy. The fact that it is working randomly suggests to me that the problem isn't with your settings anyplace or with a bad install of the program or missing enhancements. The information that may point to the source of the problem probably lies within the logs submitted with your bug report. If it points to an issue with your environment, you may receive a response to your bug report or the developers may address it in a future build of the program.
Thanks for the update about your experiences.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for the prompt reply. I may add one more thing to my previous post.
I just installed a Windows update. Thereafter, both my remote desktop and my laptop are having the yellow exclamation mark icon beside it.
Please advise further. What i will do is submit a fresh log if that may help. If oyu could have someone look into it, it would be helpful. I am almost lost without access to my desktop from my laptop and have to carry all the back up everyytime.
Once again, thanks for all the responses.
Best regards,

Go ahead and add new logs to the bug report, Sujoy.
I can't promise a response, but I will ask for this thread and your bug submission to be looked at by my contact on the Live Mesh team.

Stephen,
01. After reading one of your post on the forum, I forced a WU to get the SP2 installed on my laptop. Normal updates did not autmatically have it installed. Thanks!
02. However, the problem persists on my laptop with the notifier icons still exisiting.
03. I also forced a WU for SP 2 on my desktop which uses Windows Visa Ultimate. I attached a live mesh log from my desktop computer too earlier today.
Please find a link to my report (hope it is correct!!!):

I hope that the issue will be resolved soon. Seems I have become addicted to Live Mesh for access to my desktop from home!!!
Best regards,

Thanks for submitting the bug report. I sent a link to this thread to my contact, so having access to the bug report within the thread will help.
Vista SP2 is slowly being deployed via Windows Update, so it isn't surprising that it wasn't offered to you via AU yet.
Sorry that the problem persists.
While you await a possible resolution, you may want to try Live Sync - http://sync.live.com - just don't sync the same folders with Live Sync as your do with Live Mesh. Live Sync also offers remote capabilities and I suspect that we'll see these two programs merged in the future. It would be interesting to see if RD via Live Sync works - after it is installed on each PC, right click the tray icon and go to more/settings and place a check mark next to the allow remote connections option. To remote to a PC, you would then go to the Sync web site and connect to the PC from there.

Hello Stephen,
Sorry for the rather late reply. The guys at MS did solve my problem. Live Mesh is working fine. Thanks for all the support and advice.

Hi Steve,
May I take the liberty of bothering you once again. Last week after a windows vista update, Live Mesh went back to a non-operative mode with the same symptoms as before... i.e. the yellow exclamation mark icon beside both my desktop and laptop after logging in. However, the computers are being shown as online but not available.
Link to the latest bug report from my laptop is as below:

Would appreciate if you could request someone to have a look.
Thanks a ton.

Let me know if you don't get a response to your new bug report within a few days and I'll give my contact a nudge, Sujoy.
