What's the latest and greatest word on complete redeployment to new hardware?
I read kb952934 and am wondering if there is anything newer. It says to move the database by restoring. Any reason one could not just disconnect, copy and reconnect the database files to SQL Server?
Are there any good compendia of "gotchas" that are helpful?
thanks

Hi Mardukes
There is nothing new in moving complete deployments of CRM.
The entire process is covered in the implementetation guide (operating manual).
The reccomended process is quite like this (considering moving only hardware on a full environment, i mean, SQL + CRM + SRS).- Backup the entire DB Org_MSCRM
- Install CRM on the new Server
- Restore only DB Org_MSCRM on the new SQL Server.
- Make an Import Organization Procedure.
This will import all the reports and customizations you have.
- If you have any custom develop, web service, plugin or integration process running on your CRM you must reconfigure them too to point te new server.- Marked as answer by Donna EdwardsMVP Tuesday, April 13, 2010 2:44 PM

Make an Import Organization Procedure? What is that?
Is that the Redeployment tool?Monday, April 12, 2010 9:21 PM -
Yes,
The procedure is very simple, but I suggest try in your testing enviroment before. When you import an CRM Organization you must mapping the users.

The KB article states, "You must run the Configuration Wizard for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Client for Outlook to connect to the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server."
Is this assuming the URL has changed? Does configuring the Outlook client store something other than URL?

What does the deployment tool do? I ask because someone says it touches every record in the Organization database, an act that seems unnecessary. I would understand it arranging the config database.Tuesday, April 13, 2010 2:12 PM

If you want to have the greatest chance of a successful redeployment to the new hardware, follow the steps in the KB you referenced. It provides all the information you should need as long as you select the scenario that fits.
There is actually no longer a redeployment tool for CRM 4. The high level steps are as Jimmy explained. The details are in the KB.
