Can't search web or open e-mail links using Explorer 9

  I just downloaded Explorer 9 but can't search the web or open links from e-mails with it.

  Now I remember why I've been using Firefox for the last year . . . I had the same problem with an earlier version of Internet Explorer. Why can't I use Explorer?

  Appreciate any help offered . . .
