Mediation server Siren RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

In the QoE server document there is a bullet point that states the mediation server can be configured to use siren or narrowband for calls between OC and PSTN.  I believe the default setting is narrowband because the network MOS scores in the envrioment for OC to PSTN calls don't go higher than 2.95.

I've searched for the word "siren" in the VoIP deployment guide and didn't get a hit.  Can someone please expain how to configure the Mediation to utilized siren instead of narrowband on calls to PSTN?

    Thank you,

  • Hello -

Received answer from MS.  Its not recommended to use SIREN and just because the highest MOS score is higher doesn't mean its a better codec.

    WMI Settings (wbemtest.exe):
    Namespace: root\cimv2
    Class: MSFT_SIPMediationServerConfigSettings
    Property: DefaultCodec
    Possible Values: RTA_NB (Default), SIREN

Still may test this out to see if there is a difference.

  • You cannot get highest quality codec for PSTN because it cannot be used

PSTN uses RTA_NB for its highest quality
