Windows Vista Product Key No Longer Valid On Dell Laptop.

Last week I restarted my laptop after doing some usual Windows Updates, and when I logged in I got a message saying my version of Windows needed to be reactivated. I entered my product key to be told that it does not appear to be a genuine product key. Laptop is a Dell, now about 5 years old.
Have run MGADiag, and the output is below:

I think I know what may be the problem -
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.
Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store -
please try the following.....
Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).
Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

Hi there
I followed the instructions. When I restarted my laptop for the second time I signed in and again got the message asking me to Activate Windows. When I clicked Activate Now it came up with this error:
0xC004F055
The Software Licencing Service reported that the base SKU is not available.
I wasn't asked to enter the Product Key again at all. I've not been able to phone Microsoft themselves to get it activated, is that what I need to do now?

That error usually means that there has been an attempt at counterfeiting somewhere along the way.
Perhaps validation would give us more details....
Open Internet Explorer, and navigate to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate - what happens?
If it fails, go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag - what happens there?

When I went to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate I got this message:
Activate Windows. Windows must be activated before validation can determine if this copy od Windows is genuine. Windows is now in reduced functionality mode.
But if I try to activate Windows on startup I get that message from the last post.
When I went to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag the results were:

I have also now started getting alerts when I am logged in (in reduced functionality mode) telling me "an unauthorised change to Windows has been made" and that I should reinstall Windows to activate. Is my best bet just to look for the original CD that came with the laptop and try to reinstall Windows Vista?
