Opening a project schedule from Project Server 2010 with MS Project Professional 2007 on desktop RRS feed

    Greetings All,

    I looked in the forums and didn't see an answer to this question, and I think I know the answer that, hopefully, someone will provide.

    Currently running Project Server 2007 and in the early planning stages of moving to Project Server 2010. I have both MS Project Professional 2007 & 2010 client machines located throughout the organization. When we move to Project Server 2010 we planned on running in "Backwards Compatibility Mode" due to the mixed client environment. However in my planning, I realized that once we move to Project Server 2010 we may have a bigger issue due to the mixed client environment and was hoping someone would be able to validate my assumption before I go raising concerns about the migration.

    Once we move to Project Server 2010, if someone loads a schedule to the server created with MS PP 2010, then someone who only has MS PP 2007 on their desktop won't be able to open the schedule created with MS PP 2010 from the server.

    Am I correct in that thinking??

    While in Backward Compatibility mode, all projects saved to Project Server, whether they came from Project Pro 2007 or Project Pro 2010, will be saved in "Compatibility Mode."  They can be opened by either Project Pro 2007 or 2010.  Once you turn off BCM, when a Compatibility Mode project is opened and subsequently saved, it is saved in "Native Mode."  Once in Native Mode, they can never again be opened using Project Pro 2007.
