Product key problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • My daughter purchased online Office Ultimate 2007.  She also ordered a back up disk.  I just had her computer reformatted and purchased Windows 7.  When I went load the Office disk your program does not accept 0 or o which is listed on a Microsoft sticker.  I have pasted the program evaluation.  I see that the partial product key is not even close to what's on the key sticker.  Where do I go from here?

  • Make sure it's not a Q (q)!

Outlook 2007 appears to be installed and activated.

Windows 7 appears to be activated.

It's not unusual for the keys not to match - because the installer may use their own Key for the install rather than yours. If at any time you have an activation problem, then you can use yours. It is somewhat unusual in the circumstances of an after-market install sch as this, but whoever did it may have used a Toshiba install disk which includes their own key.

You say you can't install Office? - this may be because either the key is illegal (most software bought on eBay is), or because the current install of Outlook is blocking the install, by insisting on the use of the same key for the rest of Office.

You would be better asking this sort of question in the Office Install forum - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeinstall/threads

    HTH - and good luck

  • Hello MRI Russ,

Microsoft does not use the letter "O" or the numeral "0" in their product keys--they are too easily mixed up.

    As Noel posted, maybe it's a "Q".

You wrote, "My daughter purchased online Office Ultimate 2007.  She also ordered a back up disk."  If she purchase the Ultimate Steal Deal for College students from Microsoft and Digital River, then the product will be Genuine.  If she purchased from any other online source, then the product is likely a counterfeit.

You wrote, "I see that the partial product key is not even close to what's on the key sticker."  The mgadiag report does not show an Office product key, so you must be refering to Windows.  Your current installation of Windows 7 is a systembuilder/small manufacturer/OEM license, so the partial product key shown in the report, JTW3C-RFTVK-8WP6T, should match the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) that came with the purchase of the Windows 7 Home Premium systembuilder/small manufacturer/OEM license that was installed on this Toshiba Satellite computer.  As a matter of fact, this Toshiba should now have two CoAs on it:  the one for the original installation of Windows that was on the computer when it was purchased brand new, and the one for the W7 installation that is installed on the computer now.
