Dial-in conferencing is possible without CWA RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi all,

Just FYI:  we recently configured our dial-in conferencing.  The deployment manual states that you "must" install a CWA server in order to set pin codes and configure the conference setting for users.  This is indeed true, BUT the service does work without CWA!  There are some limitations:

    1) You can only become a conference leader when using communicator.  The services then apparantly can authenticate the user through AD and can make you leader.  All users dialing in over the PSTN are "anonymous" and as you cannot enter a pin code (it does not exist yet for your user), they are limited in their capabilities.

    2)  Obviously you cannot configure any per-user settings.

    3) Anonymous users can access your conferences without PIN... so no filtering of users...

To use the service in this way:  just configure the attendant, don't care about CWA and set your policy so that anonymous users can connect without PIN.

    Best Regards

  • I suppose that's a good point that is technically possible with quite a few caveats, but you're missing out on a lot of functionality by not deploying CWA. You also can't provide a usable link with the Conferencing Add-In for Outlook on scheduled conference calls.
