  • Question

  • I am also receiving the 80048884 error message when trying to make my desktop the hub PC. From reading the forums there appears to be no help for this problem. Am I just out of luck?

  • I don't know the solution, but contact support is certainly an option -

  • I'm getting this same error. I had to open 3 new user accounts on the affected computer and copy files from old user file to new user account. The new accounts work fine with one care, but I don't know how to copy stuff like bookmarks over to new account. I did everything they said to fix problem but it didn't on the old user account on the computer. And it's a pain logging on and off, when I need stuff on the old user account because it's no longer at hand. When XBOX, ZUNE, WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER, AND ONECARE MERGED ACCOUNTS THIS ISSUE TOOK PLACE. I had accounts with all 4, with different user names and passwords before merge, could this be the problem? Now Zune has  Y2K ISSUES... THEY NEVER SHOULD HAVE MERGED ALL THE ACCOUNTS INTO 1. Not only could I not fix Onecare, I couldn't even sign into Zune because of this issue on the affected computer. On Onecare website it says to reset permissions, in my case it doesn't work, it may for you... but first fix Zune issues before you try to fix this, if you have one...

Reset the permissions for the OneCare Database folder.
    1. Install the OneCare database update tool to reset the settings and permissions for OneCare.

    2.  Show me how
      1. Visit the OneCare database update tool website.
      2. Click Download.
      3. To start the Windows Installer Package, click Run.
      4. To start the database update tool, click Run.
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions

Note: I have 3 computers and 1 OneCare account for all 3, 1 Zune account on all 3, and 1 Xbox account. Only 1 computer is affected with this error and it affected both Zune and OneCare at sign in. I resolved the Zune issues by logging into Zune on another computer first and updating it on that computer, then connecting to problem computer, after reinstalling it, it then found the Zune that it couldn't find, before all this error ____. So 1 error fixed, now only left with this 80048884 error. I did the trash the cookies, uninstall OneCare, use the OneCare uninstall clean up tool... and it's still not fixed... may work for you...

    Run the OneCare clean-up tool.

     Show me how
    1. Copy the following web address, open your Internet browser, paste the address in the address box of your browser, and then press ENTER.

      http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/c/b/4cb845e7-1076-437b-852a-7842a8ab13c8/OneCareCleanup.exe

    2. Click Save.

I think it maybe a Windows Live Messenger issue... so I might uninstall that since it's connecting to all the accounts and then try installing everything again with that off the system. So it can't pull up that info because, I think it's there where the problem is hiding. Somethings not releasing the locked in info and the messenger is automatically set to sign in. That shared info, because of the merging together, became corrupted between the Zune and OneCare and Messenger Live. Does that make sense? another idea is Outlook Express error I had to fix long time back... had to do with autocomplete not working... had to delete a error in registry, which allowed all saved passwords and screennames to remain even after deleted or changed. It had something to do with protected storage.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264672/nl this could be the problem, it connects to user accounts on computer. Since only 1 of  the user accounts is effected this most likely is the problem, it just wont release the info and this is to release it... so make sure to check this out... it's suppose to fix the computers SID with the correct registry info. Could be our cure... I may never find this post again, so I hope my links and ideas helped you out and we find the fix we seek.
