counterfeit software RRS feed

  • Question

  • I acquired a W7U some 4 years ago and was fine till last year, when was faced with a popup continuously indicating that my software was a counterfeit, eventually I used the online service to check my software and register a report ID to which I was asked to send my unit to MS in Ireland, a complementary kit was then promised after but to this day was never delivered. not sure now if the whole thing was a scam except that I still receive the same message each time I start the windows and every few minuets telling to that I have been a victim and need to resolve the issue. also at the bottom of my desktop has this imprinted" Windows 7, built 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine". I have   used the MGAD tool and here is the report.

  • The -067- portion of your Product Key indicates that it is a Not-For-Resale MSDN version.

In order to get an MSDN subscription, you need to sign agreements with Microsoft.  Then they allow you access to keys that are to be used ONLY for the purpose for which they were intended.  When those keys are leaked and "activated" enough times, Microsoft will ban them from further use.  That might take over a year before a particular one is banned.  But the effect is the same - the counterfeit installation is then flagged as non-genuine.

For more information see the following thread:

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285/blocked-product-keys?forum=genuinewindows7

If you are not an MSDN subscriber, you will need to purchase a genuine copy of Windows 7, reformat and reinstall.  Be sure to backup your data first.  If this is the case, contact the seller and demand an immediate refund.  Do NOT accept an offer of an alternate key!

As far as the Counterfeit Kit, I have no idea and you will likely need to contact Microsoft directly.
