Home Server + Media Center + Xbox

Question

Hi there,
I'm considering a WHS after read about it and I hope somebody can help me understand if it's the right choice for my needs.
First off all, is WHS dead ? Because every information I can find about it appears to be old. What i'd like to have is a centralized storage for all my media files and that nice Windows Media Center user experience on all rooms.
So, I though I could by an HP MediaSmart (WHS) and a few Xbox consoles, however i found this thread:http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whssoftware/thread/0a139f3d-220b-4579-bc1a-30e0e4bb7cf6
Is it still true? I still need a second PC to stand in between the Xbox and WHS in order to use Xbox as a Media Center Extender?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.Friday, January 21, 2011 2:40 AM

WHS is not dead
You don't need a second PC, however if you want the media center experience you'll need the two box solution (if you want to store the media on your WHS).
The real expers are overhere, perhaps post there also.

To add to brubber's reply:
The XBox Media Extender is used to "extend" your Windows Media Center (HT)PC. In other words: you need a Windows Media Center device (MCE 2005, Vista, Windows 7) in your network for your XBox to connect to in Media Center Extender mode.Windows Home Server is *not* a Windows Media Center device. It is however capable of streaming your audio/video to Media Center devices, Windows Media Player, Xbox and many others (providing the media format and streaming protocol is supported).
To play media from WHS directly to your XBox, you can use its build-in media streaming functionality.- Theo.
