Note to Moderators and Answerers - "Validation Status: Invalid Product Key" RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • It has come to my attention that the MGA Diagnostic Report tool is reporting "Invalid Keys" for Windows XP in a way different than in the past.

In the Past, "Validation Status: Invalid Product Key" meant that the key was not created by Microsoft.

Currently,  "Validation Status: Invalid Product Key" now appears to mean the same thing in XP as "Validation Status: Invalid License" means in other versions of Windows.  In other words, it indicates a Non-Genuine issue but does not tell us what the exact issue is.

This change is only for Non-VLK product keys (Retail and OEM).  Invalid VLKs are still considered keys that were not created by Microsoft.

Note: This change does NOT affect how the MGA Diag Report displays the "Office Status:" results.

As always, if in doubt, have me to look up the key.
