Question
-
Windows won't install this update. It doesn't tell me why and I can't find anyone else who is having a similar problem. It's kind of pissing me off because windows keeps telling me that there is an update to install but it fails every time it tries, and I cant' disable the notifications. Please help, this sucks.Friday, June 29, 2007 10:36 PM

Hello M. Moreno,
Please try and download service pack 1 for net. Framework 3.0. This should solve the problem as it supersedes KB934238. It installs easily and will eliminate anymore installation reminders for KB934238. Your issue appears to be Windows Update and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) related. This Forum is only for support of WGA. Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. Please visit https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 and submit a support request for Windows Update problem which you are experiencing. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following information. First please visit the following Knowledge Base (KB) article “Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation” located @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 .
Also visit the XP Newsgroups @ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?query=Validation+Tool+%28KB892130&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&pt=&catlist=B0DE109D-10E1-4C3C-BCC9-8EB7A22FC6A0&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us and search for Validation Tool KB892130. There are many articles you can review.
Next, recently many users have experienced problems surrounding the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130). If you find that Windows Update refuses to install most patches, you can register its missing DLLs yourself. This can be accomplished by manually entering seven commands (shown in Step 2, below) at a command prompt. If you need to run the fix on multiple machines, it's easiest to use a batch file, as Steps 1 through 5 explain:
Step 1. Open Notepad (or any text editor).
Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll
Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.
Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.
Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.
The next time you visit the Windows Update site, you should not have any problem installing the latest patches.Another possible fix is to install an older version of the Windows Update files (downloadable from Step 2 of Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/en-us#SPR over the newer version. This will involve launching the installer from a command line using a switch know as /wuforce.

I am having the same problem. I have attempted to follow the directions submitted by the forum moderator and so far, the issue remains unresolved.
I have installed the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool as described.
I have run the MGADiag.exe program as prescribed.
Windows XP validates 100%
Office 2003 validates 100%.
I have also read the TechNet article related to this problem (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934238).
The article suggests the followinf scenarios:
• You install non-English versions of either of the following operating systems:
• Microsoft Windows XP
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• You install and configure a Unidrv-based printer.
• You install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.Thus far, I am running Microsoft Windows XP SP/2 U.S. Edition on an IBM ThinkPad T42.
Thus far, I do not have a unidrv-based printer (as far as I am aware).
I did have Microsoft .NET Framework installed. I uninstalled and KB934238 problem persists.
According to installation history from Microsoft Update, this is the error:
Installation Failure
Error Code: 0x80070003

I have the same problem. Updates will not automatially install. My windows installation says that it is a valid installation. I can download individual updates and install them successfully. This all started when I had to use my original installation disk to repair the system, which was not letting me login. The repair was successful, but now auto updates do not work. Caine,
Since you are having problems installing more then just WGA, It would appear that your issue is a Windows Update site issue and is outside my area of knowledge.

Dear Stephen:
Thank you for responding. I too, saw the unsupported OS message. I am running Windows 2003 server standard edition. I know Microsoft is really pushing the next generation server OS, but I thought W2K3 was at least still under the extended lifecycle support :~).I will try your suggestions to see if I can get this update to install.
Thank You!

I too am having a problem with installing this update. I don't know what to do. I ran the MGA Diagnostic tool and it worked perfect. I ran the test for Windows Genuine Advantage program and that didn't come up with any errors either... any ideas? Please email me at my email if possible, otherwise I will be back to check up on this. It's much appreciated...
Thank you!

Quit trying to install KB934238. Go to Microsoft Download Center and download Service Pack 1 for .net framework version 3.0. This supercedes KB934238 and should install with no problem. You won't be bothered with notices about KB934238 again. Good Luck.Saturday, December 15, 2007 4:28 PM

Dear Steve, If anybody else keeps asking you about this just tell them to install kb929300. this is the service pack 1 update for .net framework 3.0. apparently it includes the update for kb934238 and installs it for you. After you install .net 3.0 SP1, update kb934238 goes away.
Thanks,
Stuart

I had the same problem and searched many forums until I found the fix. Go to the microsoft download site and download Service Pak 1 for net.framework 3.0. This superceeds KB934238 and will install easily. You won't be bothered with anymore installation reminders for KB934238. Good Luck,
Mr. Tex

Hello M. Moreno,
Please try and download service pack 1 for net.
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

Hello Peter,
Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. I have extracted a portion of your diagnostic results to review with you:
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2.
We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation. Unfortunately, the product key used to install your Office Suite is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder. As a rule, VLK editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.
Also please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at:
https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx
First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer and/or the Office Suite and let them know it is a counterfeit copy. Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.
Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report piracy @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx who have become victims. Reporting piracy will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided. Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices. We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs as illustrated here:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=counterfeit
Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.
Thank you,
Matt Prall, MS
