I have a copy of Office Professional 2007 that I bought online. It was in shrink wrap and the package, disks, microsoft advertising leaflet and booklets look real. How could I tell ahead of time it was not genuine? I did use paypal so I can get my money back. Here's the code:

Hello jclamar,
Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

As you have concluded, you do indeed have a counterfeit copy of Office installed on your computer.
The packaging, the Certificate of Authenticity on the package, the supporting booklets, and the discs themselves all have Office Professional 2007 on them, yet when you did the installation, what was installed was a nongenuine volume licensing edition of Office Professional Plus 2007, and the installation was done with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key. "Invalid" means that the product key was made up by a software pirating program called a Key Generator, or keygen for short, that mimics the product keys used for installing this edition of Office. The product key was never one that was truly issued by Microsoft so it is Invalid.
Please work thru the PayPal system to immediately return this counterfeit product to the Seller for a full refund. If you purchased this product on an auction site, be sure to leave feedback that alerts other auction site participants that this Seller deals in counterfeit goods.
You wrote, "How could I tell ahead of time it was not genuine?" This Microsoft website has plenty of tips and examples of what to look for: www.howtotell.com. However, some counterfeits are so good that it's hard to spot them just by looking...sometimes you just can't know until after they are installed and checked by the OGA program.

Thanks for the response. I did go to www.howtotell.com, and it still looks like a genuine copy. I did contact paypal yesterday and I am returning the copy to the seller.Friday, November 20, 2009 1:34 PM

Hello jclamar,
Thank you for keeping us up to date on your situation :-)
I would be very hesitant to purchase a widely counterfeited item like software from an anonymous internet or auction site seller. This is probably one of those situations where the lure of low prices on the internet should be resisted in favor of the assurance of getting the Real McCoy at a well-known name brand store or perhaps a long-established local smaller reseller with whom you have done business before.
Good Luck!

Sorry to trouble you, but I have offtopic question. Where did you get your Windows 7 version? Is it student update?I see that your Windows OS version is 6.1.7600.2.00010300.0.0.003. In this thread http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/thread/d728a4ed-a032-4923-ae3c-d101517e3a32 is written that it's not the version that Microsoft sells.Could you please comment on this? Thanks in advance!Thursday, December 10, 2009 11:09 AM
