DST & Time Zone Frustrations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to change settings so that windows mobile does not change my appointments times PERIOD.  I don't want them updated for DST, (that is absolutely ludicrous that it changes apt times for DST).  And I don't want it changing them when I switch time zones either.  I have set my appointments for the appropriate time, for whatever time zone I am in or planning to be in.  Also when I set appointments that happen after daylight savings shift, the appointment is still at the same time, despite the fact that clocks have changed by one hour.  So my question is, is there a way to make it so my calender times should not change when time zones or DST time happen.... I am EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!  I just spent, a 1/2 hr, downloading all the updates, which by the way did not solve my problem.  Then I had to spend an other 45 minutes, to change half the appointments I have in my PDA, so that I won't be an hour late for my appointments for the next 3 months.

If this is not currently possible, may I suggest that it become an option in this new upcoming windows mobile version???  With all the improvements that are being made, that would be one that would be appreciated by many, myself included.  This issue has caused me to miss flights in the past, not to mention the headache of spending much time fixing the issues it causes.

PS, on my previous PDA turning off the auto clock update, fixed the time zone issue, but not the DST issue.  With my new PDA, it does not seem to fix the issue either.  I would really love to be abel to enable the auto time update feature, and still not have my calander apts changed.

    Thank you for your time,

  • Greetings Jeff!   Welcome to the Windows Mobile Total Access forums!

If you run Outlook on the PC as well, then after installing the DST update for your PDAs and PCs, you should download and run the Outlook Time Zone Update Tool, per the Microsoft Article "Updating Windows Mobile phones for Daylight Saving Time".

Lastly, in the document above, under Frequently Asked Questions (Question #5), a similar question is asked:
  • Q. What if my device operating system is not supported or DST is observed in my country but is not listed in the Changes in Windows Mobile Daylight Saving Time section?
  • A. In this case you should contact your Mobile Operator for more information.
  • I hope this helps!

  • Hi,
The reason that all your appointments changed with daylights savings time is because they are all stored based on GMT with the offset for the timezone you are in.  So when your device moved the clock, then all the appointments swiched because of this.

This process is the same with Outlook on the PC and Exchange.

  • At least your answer makes sense.  My question remains, can you make it so that my appointment times are NEVER CHANGED, by the computer.  I don't care what time zone or DST or whatever I am in, I want my appointments to stay the same time as I SET THEM.  If not are you in a position to recommend that option to a developer of Microsoft products, or could you point me in the direction of someone who could?

    Thank you very much,

    Jeff
