Desktop Window Manager (DWM) uxsms Error 9022 Windows Genuine Advantage RRS feed

  • Question

  • After installing Vista SP1, the nVidia Display Adapter no longer runs the Aero theme and that theme is no longer accessible in the Control Panel Personalization settings. After driver reinstallations and checking of all appropriate Performance and Adapter settings, I noted that the DWM (uxsms) service throws a 9022 error after remarking that the Windows installation is not Genuine.

Of course, it is and all other validation checks for WGA pass. Removing the WGA ActiveX and revisiting the WGA Validation site (microsoft.com) all successfully rerun but DWM does not see that Vista Ultimate x32 is, indeed, valid.

Where is DWM looking for this WGA status and how can the incorrect assessment be corrected?

    Hi Lonnie VanZandt,

I have talked with my Dev and Test teams and we agree that we have not seen this issue before and are unsure if it's an issue in Vista's Anti-piracy sub-system or an issue within one of Vista other sub-systems that the Anti-piracy sub-system depends on.  Since the Diagnostic Report isn't showing any Activation or Validation problems, we are leaning towards a depedancy issue.

Since this issue is likely to be more involved then would be efficient to work thru on the forums, we would like you to create a (no cost) Service Request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029. Once you create the Service Request you should see (and receive by email) a Confirmation Number. Come back to this thread and post that Confirmation Number, I will look up the Service Request and assign it you to the proper support team suited to troubleshoot the issue.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Lonnie VanZandt,

I do not see anything out of order with your Diagnostic Report as well as no additional Activation or Validation error codes. Could you provide the exact error message of the error that references being Non-Genuine as well as what exactly, you were/are doing when you receive that error.   Also, if possible, try re-running the the Diagnostic Report during the same time as you are experiencing the issue.

    Thank you,

    Darin Smith
