to get a proct key for windows px when i turn on the computer a box popos up that says i have to active windows the computer is not hooked up to the internet RRS feed

  • i bought this computer at a gargage sale i did not hook it up to the internet just used it as a personal one, now i can not get into it when i turn it on a box pops up and says to active windows if i do not it shuts itself off.the start button does not come up. itried phoning microsoft but that was no help the computer is a compact.

  • Hi mtorrie,

    Please have a look on the computer case (on the bottom if a laptop) and tell us if there is a Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to the computer.

    Since your computer is a Compaq, the second line of the CoA will likely have "Compaq" or "HPQ" or similar printed on it.

    If so, tell us what version and edition of Windows is described on the CoA. DO NOT post the Product Key printed on the CoA.
