Windows not genuine, system restore fail, and error entering product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Got the standard Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine while playing a game today. System restore fails to work also. This was a CyberPower PC custom build that I have had for a while now. The error I get after logging in and selecting to authenticate is 0x80070241

Edit: I just received a new error..."Windows must be restored" "An unauthorized change was made to Windows. You must reinstall or restore Windows system files to activate." Can't restore as I said before...

  • Also I cannot system restore, I get an error 0x80070005....

I performed a 'sfc /scannow' in cmd and it said Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are in the cbs.log but it says access denied when I try and open it.

  • Looking through other post someone linked  http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22rapid+storage%22

(Intel Rapid Storage driver updates)...Is this what I need to do? Also which one of the 64-bit ones do I need?

  • That will NOT affect your problem, which is totally different to the one in that post.

Your problem is one that we have not yet been able to solve in these forums - I recommend that you go straight to WGA support for assistance.

WGA Support can be found here-

    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

If I knew what the problem was in any detail, I’d be able to solve it – unfortunately, I have not had the chance to look closely at a system that has the problem, so cannot make any guess as to the cause.solution.

Please post your own MGADiag report to a NEW thread of your own.
Then we’ll see what the real problem is, and whether we can fix it.
