CRM 2013 Outlook Connector keeps failing

the below is from my log file. I have not yet setup claims based nor ifd this will be next when I figure out how to do this.
I can connect to my crm site properly (with the exception of https).
if I can provide further info let me know. I am really wanting to get this complete.
also for email is exchange required?

Hi Mibbler,
Try removing the credentials from the credenetials manager as per the following article and see if that helps.
You might also want to enable tracing and see if it records anything else. When it asked for the CRM URL did you enter the CRM URL and hit Test Connection? Did it ask for Authentication at that point?

hi,
I can connect to crm via the browser no problem. it is when I go to add crm outlook it fails. I have gone into credential manager and made sure that is setup properly. I did not get asked for authentication.
I am wanting to configure client based and ifd which will make it a bit easier all around.

1. Make sure your CRM url is right
2. Make sure your CRM url is in the trust site
3. Check the time and timezone of your workstation, make sure it is exactly right
4. Check SPN if it has been set right or not.
5. Check if the server and client has same rollup
