Can not install Windows Home Server 2011 connector software on XP Professional Laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having

trouble getting the connector software to install on my XP Professional Laptop (DEL Latitude D610).  I get to the point where it creates the computer on the server (Home server 2011) but then I get the error message "Windows Server Client Deployment Wizard has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  When I look into the event viewer, I see that there was a .NET Runtime 4.0 Error  (see below).  I have been able to install the connector on other XP Professional computers.  I assume there is some kind of a conflict on this computer, but I don't know how to clean it up.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Lewis

    The first Runtime error:
    EventType clr20r3, P1 clientdeploy.exe, P2 6.1.8800.16389, P3 4e1c6dca, P4 system.management, P5 4.0.0.0, P6 4ba1e140, P7 fe, P8 133, P9 system.invalidcastexception, P10 NIL.

Then the following event id 1026 is reported:

    Application: ClientDeploy.exe
    Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
    Exception Info: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException

  • There have been various problems reported with .net installations (do a search on this forum). Removing and then doing a fresh install of .net seems to have fixed the problem for some people.

  • Phil, thanks for the feedback, but I have tried to uninstalling .net several time, I have even tired copying the SMSvcHost.exe.config file from previous versions of .net (per one of the other posts) but no success.

Any hints on where to look for more information on why it is crashing?

  • OK, I dug a little further and found the ClientDeploy.log file and I have attached the contents below.  It looks like the join network task completed fine and then it blew up!  Any ideas?

  • Did anyone ever find a solution for this? I've run into this now twice in one office on older XP computers. Haven't found a fix. Trying to hopefully fiddle with it tonight and get it working but so far no luck.
