KB905474 Failure itactually installed on MAY 17, 2006 and now windows update ... RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the normal process of doing maintenance on my machine KB905474 was installed on this machine. Now Windows updater is trying to download; which it has and then fails the installation; because it is already installed and the copy on Microsoft Windows XP Professional is a genuine and is an authorized copy....

I can see in my display of windows updates where it was installed on MAY 17, 2006 and now the update mechanism says it fails installation whilst it was in stalled four weeks ago as today’s date is June 11, 2006.

Will Microsoft provide in an updates version of this fix a valid check to ensure that the fix has already been installed and not attempt to install it again?

    Sincerely,

    Mac Davison

  • Mac,

    For further assistance:

Step 1 is to download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response message in this thread.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or in the materials supplied with the computer to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.
