Can't open MS money with back up file

Question
-
Hi.
I have Ms money 2000 and have just installed from the original disc on a new computer running windows 8, but like a previous contributor I can't open it with my backup file because it asks for a password that I have never had.
For the time being I have just started again with a clean sheet, but the look of MS money is not the same. Page layouts etc.
Can I assume that at some time my MS money updated on my previous computer and I am having the password issue?
If so what should I do??
Should I Download Ms money sunset and see if the file can then be opened?? And where should I get it from?

Before you do anything, be sure that you have backups of your mny and mbf files.
If Money 2000 "looks different" then it is quite possible that you upgraded at some point and now Money 2000 will not read your file because it was created by a newer version.
To get the most recent version of Money for your region, download and install the appropriate regional version of Money from the second "sticky" in this forum:
Try opening your Money.mny file and let us know if that works. If still no joy, post back with the regional version of Money that you tried and the error message.

Thanks Bill. i am fairly sure I didn't go looking for an update to ms money 2000, but if it came as a normal windows update I could have let it happen and not noticed. I will give the download a go now.

It's ok Bill.
I had a guess. I installed it on a laptop to try it all out, double clicked the backup moved from my old PC and all is well. I just need to now do the same on my new PC.
Thanks for your help.
