Is there a tool to check if a Windows Product Key is valid RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a Microsoft tool to check if I have a valid Product Key?  I would just as soon verify that it is "good" before I install Windows on top of a running system and "break" it.

  • There is no publicly avaliable tool to be able to check a Product key before installation.

I believe the feeling is that such a tool would provide more useful to pirates (to be able to see which of thier pirated keys have been block yet) then it would be to the general public.

    Thank you,

  • Hello carpente,

Is that all you purchased, a product key?  Or did you buy a computer with W7 already installed from the manufacturer?  Or did you buy a full packaged retail product at a local store?

  • Purchase your Microsoft software from a known trusted and reliable source, such as the Microsoft Store, and you won't have to worry about it being genuine.
