CRM 64-bit with SQL 32-bit

Question

Hi everyone.
Basically at our one of clients, we are stuck with 32-bit SQL server and they want to use same installation for 64-bit CRM 4.0. Now my question is can we go ahead with this topology or we need 64-bit SQL?

I don't see any problem with this, as whether a SQL Server is 32 or 64 bit is invisible to a client application (i.e. in this case CRM).
It's possible you may have an issue with the Reporting Services Connector if you need that. I'd expect the bit-version should match the SQL bit-version - i.e. you'd want the 32-bit version. You may have a problem with the installation of this

So means, can I use existing SQL 2005 32-bit installation, then install CRM 4.0 on 64-bit platform and also install SSRS on another 64-bit platform, will it work?

Not a problem since CRM 4.0 is a 32 bit package. x86 software works on a 64 bit OS.
CRM 4.0 32 bit also works fine with a 64 bit SQL server.- Proposed as answer by Curt Spanburgh MVP ModeratorMVP, Moderator Thursday, June 25, 2009 11:19 AM

Once again I see no big issue with this. It's just that 64 bit SQL 2005 rocks with performance. So I have serveal times went with that.Friday, June 26, 2009 2:27 PMModerator

Can I use SSRS 32 bit with CRM 64-bit? :) I just want to evaluate all possible scenarios as our client does not want to use their current SQL installation which is 32 bit and at same time want to have CRM 64-bit.
