Am I Genuine. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hope this is the right place for this. I just installed win7 on my labtop, but the online activation did not work. It showed the "Type a different product key for activation" window and when clicking show me details it came back with a error code: 0xC004C008.description: the activation server determined that the specified key could not be used.

I tried the phone activation and it did work. So am just checking everything is legit.

I would also like to know if this is retail or oem version or what version it is.

If retail how many installs are left on the key? would that be the remaining windows rearm count?

    thanks

  • One word of caution - it looks to me as if this may be an MSDN-type Product Key. If so, and you're not an MSDN subscriber, then the installation is non-genuine.

From where did you acquire this Key and software?

it was a ebay purchase. i know i know only buy from auth places, well you cant even buy win7 ultimate in a store anymore so what to do. it was advertised as a brand new retail edition which of course wasnt true, the cd was a fake, but it appears the key was not. I would like to know if the key is a valid retail key with what seems like 3 installs left on the cd.(I read somewhere retail keys can be installed on 5 different motherboards, of course only 1 active at a time. this allows for furture upgrades.) so i am just trying to figure out what i got and what i need to tell this guy. Why do you think its a msdn key?

  • If you purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate product key on eBay and it came with a fake CD, it is most likely a product key stolen from a MSDN subscription account.  What happens is the seller tends to sell the same product key to many others and sooner or later, Microsoft activation servers block the product key and your installation is flagged as "non-genuine"....it's only a matter of time.
