Case/Incident numbers - Getting to 100,000 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We're using Microsoft CRM and in the next six months or so are going to end up with over 100,000 incidents/cases.

I was wondering if anyone knew what happens when we rollover from 99,999 to 100,000? Will we just go back to 00001 again, but have different (random) suffixes or will we end up with a six digit number?

I notice that the auto-numbering (eg. CAS-nnnnn-ABCDEF) only seems to have 5 number digits?

We've been trying to test this out on a test box, but inadvertantly applied our customisations before we set the auto-numbering to start at 99,999 - As a result, the customisations have set the number and now we cannot change it. Does anyone know how to change the start number for auto-numbering, if nobody knows the answer to my previous questions?

    Many thanks for your help,

    Adam.

  • The next case number to be used is determined by the currentcasenumber field in the organizationbase table.  I updated mine to 99999 and created two cases, the second of which is number 100000.
